How to calculate a tip
To calculate a tip, multiply the bill by the tip percentage. On a $60 bill, a 15% tip is 60 × 0.15 = $9, making the total $69. A quick mental shortcut: 10% is the bill with the decimal point moved one place left, and 20% is double that.
Tipping customs vary by country. In the US, 15 to 20% is standard at restaurants. In much of Europe, a service charge is often included and people round up or leave 5 to 10%. In Japan, tipping isn't expected.
