How discounts are calculated

The amount you save is the original price times the discount percentage. The final price is the original price minus that. For example, 25% off $80 saves $20, so you pay $60. Another way: multiply by (100 − discount) / 100, so 80 × 0.75 = $60.

Stacked discounts don't simply add up. 20% off followed by an extra 10% off is not 30% off: $100 becomes $80, then $72, a total discount of 28%. Apply each discount one after the other to get the real price.

Frequently asked questions

How is the final price calculated?

Final price = original price minus (original price times the discount percentage divided by 100).

Can I calculate multiple discounts stacked together?

This calculator handles a single discount at a time. For stacked discounts, apply the first discount, then use the resulting price as the new original price for the second discount.

How do I calculate 30% off a price?

Multiply the price by 0.70. For example, 30% off $50 is 50 × 0.70 = $35, saving $15.

How do I find the discount percentage from two prices?

Subtract the sale price from the original, divide by the original, and multiply by 100. $80 down to $60 is a 25% discount.
