What makes a password strong
Length matters more than anything else. Each extra character multiplies the number of possible combinations, so a random 16-character password is far harder to crack than an 8-character one, even with symbols. Aim for at least 12 to 16 characters, and use all four character types when a site allows it.
Use a different password for every account, so a leak on one site doesn't expose the others. A password manager can store them for you, and turning on two-factor authentication adds another layer of protection.
Frequently asked questions
Are these passwords stored anywhere?
No. Passwords are generated locally in your browser using the Web Crypto API and are never sent to or stored on a server.
How long should my password be?
Most security guidance recommends at least 12-16 characters with a mix of character types. Longer passwords with more character variety are harder to crack.
Is it safe to generate passwords online?
With this tool, yes. Passwords are created in your browser with its secure random number generator and are never sent to a server or saved.
Should I include symbols?
Yes, if the site allows them. Symbols increase the number of possible combinations, but adding length is even more effective.
