GPA Calculator

Calculate your grade point average from letter grades and credits.

GPA: 3.60

How to use the gpa calculator

  1. For each course, select a letter grade and enter its credit hours.
  2. Use '+ Add course' to add more rows, or Remove to delete one.
  3. Your weighted GPA updates automatically.

Add each course's letter grade and credit hours to calculate your weighted GPA on a standard 4.0 scale. Add or remove courses freely as you plan your semester.

How GPA is calculated

On a 4.0 scale, each letter grade has a point value: A = 4, B = 3, C = 2, D = 1, F = 0, with plus and minus grades in between. Multiply each grade's points by the course's credit hours, add them up, and divide by the total credit hours.

Example: an A in a 4-credit course (16 points) and a B in a 3-credit course (9 points) gives 25 points over 7 credits, a GPA of 3.57. Courses with more credits have a bigger effect on your GPA.

Frequently asked questions

What grading scale does this use?

A standard US 4.0 scale (A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, and so on down to F = 0.0). Some schools use slightly different scales.

How is GPA weighted by credit hours?

Each course's grade points get multiplied by its credit hours, then the total is divided by the sum of all credit hours. So a 4-credit course moves your GPA more than a 1-credit course does.

What is a good GPA?

It depends on your goals, but a 3.0 is often seen as solid, and many competitive programs look for 3.5 or higher.

What's the difference between weighted and unweighted GPA?

In US high schools, a weighted GPA gives extra points for honors or AP classes, so it can go above 4.0. This calculator uses the standard 4.0 scale weighted by credit hours.
